It had been quite a while since I saw this first film in a series all based on books written by Janette Oke. It was my favorite book series I read in my youth. But I forgot how moving this story is. I am so touched by this story. Life doesn't turn out like we plan....that is the plain. truth. But that doesn't mean that God isn't right there beside us during it all.
"Missy could fall down and hurt herself, even if I'm walking right there beside her. That doesn't mean that I allowed it to happen. She knows, as far as unconditional love, I'll pick her up and I'll carry her. I'll try to heal her. I'll cry when she cries. And I'll rejoice when she is well. In all the moments of my life, God has been right there beside me. The truth of God's love is not that he allows bad things to happen. It's His promise that he'll be there with us when they do." [Love Comes Softly-2003]
Then there is the powerful love story. We women have tricked ourselves into believing that love is a feeling. We watched the 2nd film in this series just tonight and Marty is quoted to say "Just remember that God has written His own story for you and it's not the feelings of your heart that it should be based upon but rather the thoughts of your heart that you need to hear. That inner voice that tells you that this man will care for you no matter what, that he'll still want to kiss you when you're old and gray. Tend to you when you're sick. Honor you."[Love's Enduring Promise-2004]
Marty was able to tell it that way from experience. She learned from Sarah Graham:
"You know, sometimes love isn't fireworks. Sometimes, love just comes softly."Marty's vision couldn't see past the wagon train leaving in the spring...and she felt her short time spent with young Missy was going to be a waste. Clark reminds her:
"Nothing is a waste of time if it adds to the person that you are."
I just wanted to share this beautiful story with you! I added it to my Favorite Films tab.
My gift to you....WATCH ON YOUTUBE
